Against Omega: 70% brand recognition; fair resale value; ridiculous number of limited editions (but getting better), heritage models and not so great commercial tie-ins (eg, some tacky Bond watches); second fiddle reputation. I’d wager the real situation is somewhere in the middle, as they can see that this drives up the perceived value of their watches (if they are harder to buy).
However, in the Omega world, the opposite seems to hold true (in my experience at least.) The more exposure to sunlight, the heavier the patina. I own one NOS and one near NOS vintage Omega from the late early 70's/ late 60's which barely have any patina. The watches where put in a safe for +40 yrs. and the tritium on the markers look brand new . Vintage Rolex as an example a 5513. Serial Numbers are stamped on the case not on the movement. So if the movement is totally wasted -say a 1520 movement as an example- and you find a new one or a good used one- and install/replace the wasted one using the same case, no issues since no SN on the movement.
